Uum, maybe I should got there before I relocate to my preferable ...

You vacationed on the shores of Charleston, the beaches of California and Florida, and even along the Michigan and Wisconsin shores of the Great Lakes. You visited Cape Cod, saw lighthouses on the coast of Maine and journeyed into the Outer Banks in North Carolina. You may have even traveled abroad on a cruise to Jamaica, Costa Rica or Italy.

Remember that beach house you stayed at and felt completely relaxed? You not only fell in love with the sand between your toes, the refreshing smell of ocean air and the convenient location of the house, but you felt at home with the non-tourist local area as well. In fact, the thought of leaving to go back home is leaving you stressed and in tears. Why not enjoy the travel and leisure experience as a way of life? Turn your favorite vacation destination into a permanent residence.

Here`s how:

Before you disregard the notion of diy moving tips to your favorite vacation spot to turn it into a permanent resident as a senseless notion, realize that it is done more often than you might think. After all, isn`t that the idea behind the rush of retirees to live in hot vacation spots like Florida and why International travel has led some to buy a permanent home overseas? Don`t wait till you retire to enjoy the area you find relaxing and full of natural beauty and wonder.

Of course, holidays are relaxing in and of themselves simply because you leave the work at the office and spend your travel on leisure time with limited clutter and maybe even maid service. Be sure before you make your final decision.

Take a tour of the city to see it from the eyes of a local resident. Ask for local favorite hot spots, shopping venues and restaurants. Then, shop or eat there. Visit the city on more than one occasion. Check flight specials with airlines that fly in and out of the city from your current home. Depending on the location and distance from where you currently live, air fare can actually be quite affordable.

The first step is researching the reality of owning or renting a home in the area. You already know about hotels and beach front properties for rent in the area from booking your original vacation to the location. Now it`s time to take a closer look. There are two ways to approach this: Temporary or permanent housing.

Temporary ? Before you commit to putting down roots, check out temporary living spaces like apartments or condominiums for rent. Short-term housing can also come in the form of extended-stay or hotels willing to work out a price break.

Permanent ? Visit area grocery stores near the beach or vacation spot you love, and pick up a real estate booklet. Find these in racks near the entrance ways of local stores. The books give you a good idea of cost of living and available real estate agents who can help you find a home nearby.

Wait! There is that need to find a job before you plunge into the idea of relocating to an ocean view. The same stores where you found the real estate guides also tend to display local community newspapers and magazines that list job openings in the area. Check job boards online, or get really serious by contacting a placement agency in the town. Even set up some interviews while you???re there. If you didn`t come prepared for a job interview, and your wardrobe includes a swimsuit and towel, swing by a local store to pick up proper business attire to be prepared to make a good impression.

Whether you decide to just pick up and move without actually visiting that extraordinary place to live, you should always check or approximate the total cost of your move. Request affordable movers estimates from potential partner companies that can help you gauge the total expense of moving to that ideal location you seek. There are many companies that offer this service regardless of where you are moving to. A smart consumer should plan every minute detail of such relocation.

Species-Specific Microbes May Be Key to a Healthy Immune System

News | Health

Mice raised with human microbiomes never develop mature immune systems, which may explain the rise in immunological illnesses

?

Mice have a jungle of bacteria, viruses and fungi in their stomachs?and so do we. These microorganisms help both mice and us break down dinner. As we are finding, these bugs also help to regulate the immune system. But we are just starting to learn how these tiny organisms influence us and how changing their composition changes us.

In an attempt to find out, postdoctoral researcher Hachung Chung and her colleagues at Dennis Kasper's Lab at Harvard Medical School tried raising mice with exclusively human gut microbiota.

The human microbes did pretty well in the mice guts (the researchers could tell by culturing fecal pellets from these mice). Interestingly, though, the mice with these microbes did not: their immune systems remained underdeveloped. Even when researchers gave rat microbiota to mice, the mice's immune systems failed to mature. The results were published in the June 22 issue of Science.

The findings are "perhaps the most definitive that I've seen," says Eugene Chang, a professor of medicine at the University of Chicago, who was not involved in the new study. They show "the critical and specific relationship between host and gut microbes, which is needed for proper development of the host immune response," he says.

The results support the thinking that we humans have coevolved with our microbes?and we're probably not the same without them. "The selection of partners is not by chance," Chang says. And that might explain why as we alter our microbiomes?with antibiotics and superclean upbringings?our immune systems have been changing as well, ushering in increasing rates of autoimmune conditions such as allergies and diabetes. "The consequence is that the balance between us and our microbes, determined through evolution, is upset in ways that impact our health and increase risk for many diseases that were previously uncommon," he notes.

Starting germ-free
For these experiments, starting germ-free is key. These extra-clean mouse colonies have been living for several years?and many generations?without contact even with the lab environment, so their stomachs remain in a prenatal state (as with humans): sans microbes.

The upside to a germ-free mouse facility is that because the animals' cages are sealed in airtight areas, it smells much better than rooms with standard caged lab mice. The downside is that they take a lot of care. Tools, food, bedding and water have to be sterilized via autoclave and introduced through a double-valve seal. Lab technicians and researchers reach into the cages with plastic gloves that are built into the sealed clear covers similar to the enclosure immunodeficient David Vetter, called the "bubble boy," lived in during his short life. A year after starting at the lab, Chung got married. And perhaps even more so than the food, flowers and guest list, she says, she planned the event largely around the mice.

Chung and her fellow researchers were interested in what happened if these mice got non-mousy microbiomes. To compare reactions with different microbiome compositions, Chung could then give these germ-free mice either human, mouse or rat microbiota (by feeding them microbiomes cultured from feces). One group was kept germ-free as a control.

Casey Affleck To Direct Baseball Film

Casey Affleck

Casey Affleck is set to write and direct a new biopic about embattled baseball star Josh Hamilton.
?
The Texas Rangers prodigy fell from grace at the beginning of his professional career after struggling with alcohol and drug addiction issues.
?
After several stints in rehab, outfielder Hamilton got his life back on track and he has since earned a name for himself as one of the best home-run hitters in the league.
?
And now Hamilton's story is set to get the big screen treatment from the "Gone Baby Gone" star, who will also serve as executive producer of the biopic.
?
"The Town" producer Basil Iwanyk, who has also signed on for the project, tells Deadline.com, "I truly think this guy's story is one of the most inspiring stories I've ever read. It's also tailor-made for a movie: it has the mythic quality of The Natural, the faith-based angle of The Blind Side - and faith is a major part of our story - and the romance of Walk the Line.
?
"Casey has totally captured those elements in his take for the movie. It is an extraordinary odyssey that took him (Hamilton) from the depths of drug addiction, estrangement from his family, and suspension from baseball to a spectacular rebirth of his life, faith, marriage and major league career."

Romney: Energy holds key to manufacturing rebirth

By David Skolnick

skolnick@vindy.com

YOUNGSTOWN

President Barack Obama has put obstacles in the path of the natural gas and oil industry and is looking to end the use of coal for energy, says Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

?My view is entirely different than his,? Romney said. ?I think if we aggressively pursue our natural gas and coal and oil resources, they will be in abundance and relatively cheap. You?ll see manufacturing return to America from offshore.?

Romney recently answered questions about energy during a one-on-one interview with a Vindicator reporter in Brunswick, a community in Medina County.

With the oil and gas industry boom in the state, including the Mahoning Valley, and the importance of coal to Ohio?s economy, energy is one of the key issues in this year?s presidential election.

Obama issued an executive order in April to create a federal interagency group to develop a plan for safe and responsible gas development, including fracking.

Fracking is a process in which water, chemicals and sand are blasted into rocks thousands of feet below the ground to unlock natural gas and oil.

?My concern has been there?s been nine different federal agencies all trying to insert themselves into the fracking regulation and it has convinced some employers that natural gas in abundant supply will not be reliable in this country,? Romney said.

When asked about Romney?s statement on the number of federal agencies involved in gas development, his campaign pointed to Obama?s April executive order that calls for high-level officials from at least 13 federal agencies to be a part of the interagency group.

As for concerns from employers about natural gas, Romney said a high-ranking official with Dow Chemicals Co. told him the company decided not to build in Oklahoma and instead go ?offshore because they were worried about the reliable supply of natural gas given the current administration?s intrusion into fracking regulation.?

As for concerns about supply, the Western Reserve Transit Authority is considering adding natural-gas vehicles to its fleet, said Matthew Kotanchek, its director of maintenance.

?There has been nothing political that has caused concerns about supply,? he said.

Federal laws are needed for safety oversight for coal mining and fracking, Romney said.

?There?s a very legitimate and important role that [the federal] government plays in setting the table for the economy to work,? he said. ?Traditionally, fracking regulation has been managed at the state level and has worked well.?

In response, Jessica Kershaw, an Obama campaign spokeswoman, said: ?Mitt Romney?s rhetoric on energy is dishonest and misleading.?

With Obama as president, domestic oil and natural-gas production have gone up every year with oil production reaching an eight-year high and natural-gas production reaching an all-time high in 2011, Kershaw said.

?President Obama believes natural gas is an important part of our all-of-the-above energy strategy, and he?s committed to developing its production in a safe and responsible way,? she said.

With Obama as president, drilling on federal lands has decreased, Romney said.

?Licenses have been cut in half; permits have been cut by two-thirds on federal lands,? Romney said. ?The president said, ?Gosh, look there?s more oil being produced.? Yes, Mr. President, on private land, not as a result of anything you?ve done, but in spite of it.?

When Obama could help, ?he has not encouraged the development of natural gas, oil and coal,? Romney said.

Those involved in the oil and gas industry do not believe the government is trying to stop development, just that the process is slow.

There is little in the way of regulation to prevent companies from drilling for oil and gas on federal land, said Terry Fleming, executive director of the Ohio Petroleum Council.

Recently there have been meetings between companies and federal officials about drilling permits in the Wayne National Forest in southeast Ohio, he said.

?The park officials seemed very interested in drilling,? Fleming said.

When asked about fewer drilling permits being issued on federal land, he said, ?I expect everything to take longer when you?re dealing with the federal government.?

The amount of time it takes to receive a permit is the biggest issue with drilling on federal land, said Jerry James, president of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association.

The regulations have not changed significantly, but the amount of time it takes to get a drilling permit on federal land has increased dramatically during the Obama administration, James said.

?I?m working on some leases on federal land, and we?re a year and a half into the process. We?re being told it may take another year for the permit,? he said. ?Two and a half years is a lifetime in the oil and gas industry. Companies might just move on to other projects.?

It does not appear as though the federal government is against drilling on federal land. The process is simply time-consuming, James said.

Under Obama, coal regulations have ?become more and more labyrinthian, more difficult for coal to be mined and almost impossible to be used,? Romney said.

In January 2008, Obama said, ?If someone wants to build a coal plant, they can. It?s just that it will bankrupt them because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that?s being emitted.?

Romney said the president is ?obviously acting in concert with that view.? He added that ?the president?s priority is to reduce greenhouse gases and that means doing everything you can to shut off? gas, oil and coal.

?My priority is to create good jobs for the American people and keep our air clean,? Romney said.

Romney said with him as president the country will see ?a manufacturing resurgence.?

Romney ?claims he supports coal,? Kershaw said, but the former Massachusetts governor ?has been a longtime critic of coal-fired power plants.?

Just after Romney became governor, he said a coal-fired plant in Salem Harbor, Mass., needed to be closed because ?that plant kills people.? Romney?s campaign has said he specifically was referring to one of the state?s oldest coal plants not in compliance with state environmental laws, and not the entire industry.

?President Obama has made clean coal an important part of his all-of-the-above energy policy, investing $5 billion in clean-coal technology and working to make sure regulations work with local circumstances to keep plants in business,? Kershaw said. ?Since Obama took office, coal jobs in Ohio have risen 10 percent and coal jobs nationally are at a 15-year high.?

AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition review roundup: a big, bad bruiser of a graphics card

AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition roundup review a big bad bruiser of a graphics card

You know the routine: we looked this revamped card's spec sheet a few hours ago, so now it's time to find out how it fared in independent tests and whether it's worth the $499 outlay. On the face of it, this powerhouse of a card ought to be a champ, since it comes $50 cheaper than the original's launch price (although that non-GHz Edition has now dropped to $449) and brings crucial improvements in clock speed and memory bandwidth. In practice? Well, it wins -- but only on points. Read on for more.
