Women & Heart Health

We also tend of Heart Attacks as a male dominated condition ? this is untrue. However, because? heart attack symptoms vary so much between men and women, they tend to be misdiagnosed or?under diagnosed, to women?s peril.

Women are likely used to taking more control of their health care, and to seek medical attention more than their male counterparts. This is why it is so important for women (and the men who love them) to take note of several symptoms which seem to be shared by women about a month before they have a heart attack. Knowing the signs of a potential heart attack or heart disease, can get the woman to her physician or cardiologist for treatment and can potentially save her life!

Insomnia -?or being unable to fall asleep when going to bed ? about am onth prior to heart attack.

Extreme Fatigue ? Can be months before the heart attack. A feeling much stronger than being tired, a fatigue which prevented? women from keeping their usual routine or schedule for more than one day.

Shortness of breath ? Trying ot catch her breath, or becoming winded walking up steps or going about daily chores.

Anxiety and/ot stress ? We know Stress is a risk factor for heart attack, women tend to experience the feeling of being particularly?anxious or stressed prior to their episode.

Indigestion or nausea - Women who have had a heart attack describe cramps, stomach pain, nausea or digestive problems prior to their heart episode.

Symptoms of the Flu ? common fly symptoms such as chills, sweats, feeling weak or dizziness can actually be symptoms of a heart attack.

Pain in neck, jaw or shoulder ? A feeling of tightness going from the jaw to the neck or up into the ear has been reported by many women who have then had a heart attack. Pain may also follow to the shoulder? or arm ? usually on the left side or described as back pain like a pulled muscle.

It isn?t like on television. A woman has to be more pro-active about heart health. Knowing the symptoms is a good start. Follow it up with a visit to your Primary doctor or Cardiologist. If you have a family history of heart disease, let your physician know!? Ask about an personalized diet and exercise regimen too. An ounce of prevention can prevent a heart attack.
