National college roundup: Creighton moves into tie for first

Doug McDermott scored 29 points and made five of Creighton?s 15 3-pointers in the No. 21 Bluejays? 91-77 victory over visiting Missouri State on Wednesday night. ?

Ethan Wragge added 15 points, Austin Chatman had 14 points and 10 assists for his first double-double, and Grant Gibbs had 10 points for the Bluejays. Creighton (19-3, 8-2) moved into a tie for first place with Wichita State in the Missouri Valley. ?

Gavin Thurman scored 19 points to lead the Bears (6-16, 4-6), who dropped to 1-10 on the road. ?

DRAKE 61, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 56: Chris Hines scored 12 points and Richard Carter hit a key 3-pointer in the final minute for the visitors. ?

Southern Illinois (8-13, 1-9) overcame a 10-point second-half deficit and tied the game at 54-54 when Josh Swan hit 1 of 2 free throws with 1:33 remaining. But Carter followed with a 3 with 1:05 left and Drake (10-11, 4-6) hit 4 of 6 free throws.

Cody Zeller scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half, Christian Watford added 17 points and No. 3 Indiana routed rival Purdue 97-60 to hand the Boilermakers their worst loss at Mackey Arena.

The Hoosiers (19-2, 7-1) have won four straight overall and five consecutive road games in league play, keeping a share of the Big Ten lead.

Purdue (11-10, 4-4) was led by freshman center A.J. Hammons, who had a career-high 30 points.

The Wolverines (20-1, 7-1) made 10 of their first 11 shots and went the entire first half without a turnover. They didn?t commit a foul, either, until the final minute of the half. ?

Alex Olah scored 10 points for Northwestern (12-10, 3-6).

The Wolverines finished with only two turnovers. They didn?t have any until 6-foot-10 freshman Mitch McGary tried to start a fast break himself by dribbling up the court and lost the ball with less than 12 minutes left. ?

The two turnovers in a game equaled a national low for any team this season, according to STATS LLC.

Anthony Hickey scored 20 points, Andre Stringer added 18 and host LSU defeated No. 17 Missouri 73-70.

Hickey had 14 points in the second half and Stringer converted a key four-point play late in the game for the Tigers (11-7, 2-5 SEC).

Phil Pressey scored 25 for Missouri (15-5, 4-3), which has lost all four of its games on the opposing team?s home court this season.

(4) FLORIDA 75, SOUTH CAROLINA 36: Kenny Boynton and Mike Rosario scored 15 points apiece as the hosts dominated another SEC opponent.

The Gators, who won their ninth game in a row, led 33-10 at halftime and made their first five shots after the break. They opened a 31-point lead that seemingly couldn?t get any more lopsided. Then it did.

Florida (17-2, 7-0 SEC) pulled ahead 55-15 on Scottie Wilbekin?s floater in the lane with 12:32 remaining.

(5) DUKE 75, WAKE FOREST 70:? Mason Plumlee scored a career-high 32 points and Duke earned its first road win of the season.

Seth Curry added 21 points, including a tiebreaking 3-pointer in the final minutes for the Blue Devils (18-2, 5-2 ACC).

Freshman Devin Thomas had 15 points for the Demon Deacons (10-10, 3-5).

(14) MIAMI 73, VIRGINIA TECH 64: Shane Larkin scored 25 points and the visitors took command with a 13-2 second-half surge for its eighth straight win. ?

Kenny Kadji added 18 points for the Hurricanes (16-3, 7-0 ACC), who trailed by 12 in the first half before getting a 22-6 burst spanning halftime. ?

National scoring leader Erick Green led the Hokies (11-9, 2-5) with 30 points.

(18) KANSAS STATE 83, TEXAS 57: Thomas Gipson had 17 points off the bench, Angel Rodriguez added 11 points and eight assists, and the hosts snapped a two-game skid.

Omari Lawrence also scored 12 in a reserve role for the Wildcats (16-4, 5-2 Big 12).

(20) NEW MEXICO 63, WYOMING 59: Cameron Bairstow scored 17 points and the visitors handed the Cowboys their third straight loss. Hugh Greenwood added 13, Kendall Williams 12 and Alex Kirk 10 for the Lobos (18-3, 5-1 Mountain West).

The Cowboys (15-5, 2-5) were led by Derrious Gilmore?s 15 points, all on 3-pointers.

(24) CINCINNATI 62, RUTGERS 54: Sean Kilpatrick scored 19 points and the hosts intensified their defense in the second half, overcoming a 10-point deficit for a sweep of their season series. ?

Cincinnati (17-4, 5-3 Big East) blocked eight shots, forced 21 turnovers and held the Scarlet Knights to 24 points in the second half.
