NFL star opening religious dialogue, pastor says

His name is instantly recognizable. Football star Tim Tebow is shattering records as he leads the Denver Broncos through the NFL Playoffs. From shirt sales to social media, everyone wants a piece of the religious football player.

The Tim Tebow stance is now so familiar, even Green Bay Packers fan Tucker Tangeman says he can appreciate it.

"The fact that he is leading them to the playoffs is awesome," he said.

But now it's Sunday night's game - the most watched NFL game since 1988 - that has people talking about Tebow.

He threw for 316 yards and led the Denver Broncos to beat the Stealers in overtime.

"After that one touchdown I had 40 people saying, ?Go Tebow! You're the man!'" Tangeman said.

Tebow, who is very outspoken about his religion, is gaining some passionate followers of his own on Twitter and Facebook.

His name is becoming a brand - one that's hard to buy.

It's slim pickings if you want his jersey from the NFL's website and it's been sold out for months in at least one Fort Myers store.

His prayer-like stance is catching the eye of pastors like Art vanSanten, with the Fort Myers Master's Commission.

"Boy, he's made quite a name for himself in recent weeks with the Broncos," the pastor said.

But he says he knows it will take more than a Hail Mary to pack more people into the pews at church.

Even so, vanSanten says the dialogue is now open.

"If nothing else, it makes people think twice about Jesus Christ and that is great," he said.

Even though his gear may be sold out, fans we spoke to say the famous football star has a long way to go before he does.
